If a bunion is not severe, a different style of shoe may be suggested; or, you may be prescribed custom-made shoe inserts (orthotic devices) to control incorrect foot mechanics. Physical therapy such as whirlpools and ultrasound along with oral medications (to soothe the pain caused by inflammation) are other alternatives that may be used to remedy this condition.
For severe bunions and conditions not responding to conservative treatment, outpatient or in-office surgical correction may be recommended. Surgical techniques have improved significantly in recent years. Within hours after surgery, you’ll be on your way home.
